The activities of a Rakhine organisation have confounded locals in Kawa Bil and Kya Ri Prang in Maungdaw North.
The organisation began handing out soaps and thami to Rohingyas affected by the latest round of violence which has killed scores in these two village tracts. They began their activities on Thursday.
Locals thanked the organisation but said they needed food, medicine and shelter instead of soaps and thamis. However, this drew a negative reaction from the Rakhine humanitarian workers and they threatened some of the locals with beatings.
They also went to Rohingya houses and forced many to be photographed receiving the aid.The organisation carried a banner saying ‘Implement’. They did not let the Rohingyas take any pictures saying it was not allowed by security forces.
There is a heavy security presence in the area.
Kawa Bil and Kya Ri Prang were hit in the first days of the violence, with some entire families, including the children being summarily executed by the Tatmadaw.
