Ramadan is the holy month for every Muslims around the world. Majority of the Rohingya inhabitants practice Islam. A Rohingya who wishes to keep the identity anonymous of Block H, Camp 26, Nayapara camp recently been interviewed where he explained, “ There was no such facilities for Rohingyas in the month of Ramadan at Myanmar. We were prohibited from performing daily prayers at Mosque. Due to 144 rule for Rohingya ethnicity, we were also forbidden to give Adhan (call to prayer) by using a loud speaker.”
He also added, “ After the year 2000, the Myanmar government started to force Rohingyas to stay away from their religious obligation by compelling restrictions in religious activities. In 2012, the Myanmar government publicly announced aiming Rohingys to refrain mosques and that order is still prevalent till now. But here in Bangladesh we are performing our fast with no hindrance and also we are able to perform our 5 salahs (daily prayer) in the mosques. We are thankful for this to Bangladesh government.”
