Just after a week of the relocation of Rohingya refugees at Bhasan Char, a healthy Rohingya infant was born yesterday 11th December 2020, marking as the “first newborn” to be born in the island.
The baby’s parents Md Kasem and Rabeya Khatun are amongst the first group of people who agreed to settle in the small island of southern Noakhali. Their eldest son Noor Bashar was born in Myanmar, second son Abul Bashar was born in Kutupalong camp and the third born in Bhasan Char.
The host authority, Commodore AA Mamun Chowdhury, project director of the Ashrayan-3 Project (the official name of the Bhasan Char project), said, “It was really a momentous occasion, in this month of Victory, that we could relocate the first batch of forcibly displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMN) from Cox’s Bazar.”
