Meet Maulana Hamidur Rahman, the elected spokesperson of the KYP Youth Union (KYP-YU) and a respected figure in the Rohingya community. With an extensive background in education, Mr. Rahman completed his Dawrah Hadith from Potiya Madrasa in Chittagong in 2006 and later earned a postgraduate certificate from Sittway University, Myanmar. After fleeing to Bangladesh, he dedicated himself to community service, educating Rohingya children in Islamic study centers and community-led high schools.

The KYP Youth Union was founded by Mohammad Rafique, also known as Ro Maung Shwe, and is now led by the youth of the Kyet Yoe Pyine (KYP) region, along with its Central Executive Members. Following an election, Maulana Hamidur Rahman was chosen as the spokesperson. “It has been over two years now that I have been serving as the elected spokesperson of the KYP Youth Union,” Rahman shared.

About KYP Youth Union

KYP Youth Union is a humanitarian organization established to empower the youth of Kyet Yoe Pyine, a region in northern Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State. This collective initiative comprises several local villages, with the union working toward strengthening communication skills, promoting the values of KYP villagers, and assisting underprivileged community members through collaboration.

The union envisions a future where KYP youth uplift their villages and achieve the dreams of their people while creating a foundation for generations to come. It emphasizes equality, diversity, and dignity for all under the slogan: “You Youths Are Our Future.”

Mission and Objectives

KYP Youth Union is driven by a mission to foster mutual respect, collective cooperation, and effective communication. It aims to develop villages, liberate the community, and adhere to government laws while emphasizing Islamic principles.

Key Objectives:

  • Promote mutual respect and kindness within the community.
  • Encourage youth participation in village development.
  • Uphold Islamic teachings and adhere to legal frameworks.
  • Unite KYP villagers worldwide for the collective betterment of the community.
  • Enhance the education sector while discouraging unethical or illegal activities.
  • Offer support to the vulnerable, including widows, people with disabilities, and individuals with chronic illnesses.

Activities and Impact

KYP Youth Union actively promotes education through community development initiatives and prize-giving ceremonies to honor students completing the Quran, Dawrah Hadith, or matriculation exams. The organization also supports sports activities like football, volleyball, and cane ball to foster community engagement.

In addition to routine youth empowerment training, the union responds promptly to emergencies, including fire incidents, flooding, and storms. Its ongoing efforts include:

  • Weekly community development training sessions for Rohingya youth.
  • Supporting fire victims and vulnerable families.
  • Managing schools and Islamic study centers.

Currently, KYP-YU has over a thousand active members who contribute to expanding the organization’s activities. Their collective efforts ensure that KYP-YU continues to serve the Rohingya community, bringing hope and support to those in need.

A Unified Vision for the Future

The KYP Youth Union remains steadfast in its commitment to uplifting the Rohingya community, ensuring that the youth of Kyet Yoe Pyine can bring smiles and happiness to the helpless through their dedication and initiatives.
