On Friday, Friends in Village Development Bangladesh gave dignity kits to 2,000 Rohingya teenage girls and women in camps 21 and 24 in the Teknaf Upoazila in Cox’s Bazar.
The kits were provided by the “Prevention and Response of Child Protection Concerns through Timely Initiative with Child Engagement” (PRACTICE) Project, according to a press release on Saturday. Radiohjalpen funded the project, while Plan International Bangladesh provided professional assistance.
Teenage girls and young women from the Rohingya community in Cox’s Bazar, including those in camps 21 and 24, received the kits to assist them and safeguard their honor.
A press statement said that since its start in July 2023, the PRACTICE project has given 12,279 girls and young women dignity kits that give them power. Both teenage girls and young married women in the Rohingya communities reportedly receive these dignity kits.
They contain important menstrual health and hygiene items like a laundry bar, bath soap, sanitary pad, plastic bucket, slippers, scarf, coconut oil, female underwear, Thami, and nail care products. Giving out these kits demonstrates that the project is serious about supporting health, dignity, and empowerment by ensuring that people can get the things they need to manage their menstrual hygiene safely and respectfully.
The release said that this work should lead to better health outcomes and a lower chance of infection.
