Maungdaw, October 11, 2025:
Three Rohingya fishermen from Thar Si Kwe village in northern Maungdaw have gone missing after they went to sea to fish on October 8, local sources confirmed.
Fishermen Fail to Return Home
According to residents, the men left for the Naf River on the evening of October 8 to catch fish as part of their regular routine. They usually return home between 6 and 7 a.m. the following morning to sell their catch. However, this time they did not come back, raising alarm among their families.
Search Underway, No Clues Found
Worried family members and fellow villagers began searching for them the next day. They looked in several areas, including near the border fence and in the mangrove forests along the river, but found no trace of the men, their fishing boat, or equipment.
“The families have been searching for days. We do not know what happened to them,” one villager told Rohingya Khobor.
Authorities Informed
The families have reported the missing persons to local authorities but have yet to receive any information about their whereabouts. Residents said the search is continuing as anxiety grows in the community.
Fishing remains one of the few livelihoods for Rohingya families in northern Maungdaw, but increasing insecurity, border restrictions, and military presence along the Naf River have made it increasingly dangerous.
