Three students were kidnapped on April 4 at around 4:00 p.m. in Jamtoli Camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, raising fear and concern among Rohingya residents.
The victims were identified as Hf Soyed Ullah from Camp 05, Mohammed Murutasa from Camp 03, and Oziul Hoque from Camp 03. According to local sources, they had travelled to Jamtoli when the incident occurred. Two of the boys are Hifz madrasa students, while the third attends a general school.
Sources said the boys have not been released, and the kidnappers have demanded ransom from their families. A video was reportedly sent showing the victims being threatened with weapons. The reported demands include 200,000 taka for the eldest, 100,000 taka for another, and 50,000 taka for the youngest.
Families of the victims said they are unable to arrange the money and are waiting anxiously for any information.
“We are very worried and helpless. We do not have enough money for their release. We just want our child to come back safely,” said Mohammed Sadek, brother of Hf Soyed Ullah.
A resident said the incident has created widespread fear in the camp. “This is a very serious situation. Our children are not safe, and we are all living in fear,” the resident said.
Another community member called for immediate action. “We request the authorities to take quick action and rescue these boys,” the person said.
The incident has increased concern about safety in the camps, with residents urging stronger security measures to protect children and students.
