Maungdaw- Authorities have dug up two people killed by the Tatmadaw in the village tract of Ludaing in Maungdaw North.
Wajeda Begaum (d/o Kalim Ullah) and Yunus (s/o Abul Kalam) were shot dead when military opened fire on fleeing civilians on November 19, 2016.
Members from the Tatmadaw, Hlun Htein and police units were all present when the two corpses were dug up from the graveyard on Thursday.
The corpse of Wajeda was later reburied in the same spot.
Local sources say the corpses were taken for an investigation.
Unprecedented international and regional pressure have caught the Tatmadaw off guard and it is trying hard to convince the world they are bringing the perpetuators of the Rohingya violence to book, according to international observers. There has been doubts on the sincerity of the military as most observers point out the forces were well aware of the ground realities in Arakan where hundreds of innocent civilians were killed especially in October and November.
Even last week, high ranking Tatmadaw officials have defended the atrocities as legitimate counter-insurgency operations.
Meanwhile, one report says the Tatmadaw, Hlun Htein and police forces are blaming each other for the brutal nature of the operations that have attracted the world’s attentions to the plight of the Rohingya Muslims.
