Buthidaung, October 22, 2025 — Two Rohingya boys were killed when an unexploded weapon detonated near Than Shaung Kan village in Buthidaung Township, Rakhine State—an area previously known for mass killings of Rohingya civilians.
The victims were identified as 15-year-old Sayed Mullah from Na Uin Tu village and 14-year-old Mohammed Faisal from Kyauk Seik village.
According to local sources, the incident occurred on October 19 while the boys were herding buffaloes in a nearby field. One of them reportedly stepped on an unexploded RPG shell hidden under the grass, triggering an explosion that killed both instantly.
A resident of the area told Rohingya Khobor, “One of the boys was sitting on a bamboo fence while the other was running to drive the buffaloes. The weapon was under the grass nearby. When his foot hit it, it exploded, and both died on the spot.”
Villagers said that unexploded ordnance left behind after recent clashes between armed groups continues to threaten civilians, particularly children, across northern Rakhine.
