Two Rohingya girls were reportedly detained by the Arakan Army on Monday in Phyu Laik village of Buthidaung Township, according to local residents. Their identities were not disclosed by the source who reported the incident.
Residents said the girls were taken earlier in the day, and their condition is believed to be very serious. The incident has triggered fear and panic within the community.
Speaking to Rohingya Khobor, a Rohingya villager said, “We are very scared now. Young girls are not safe anymore, even inside their own villages.”
Another resident said the presence of an Arakan Army checkpoint has further heightened fear among villagers.
“The Arakan Army has a checkpoint at Phyu Laik Bridge. Because of this, people are afraid to move from one place to another,” the resident said.
A Rohingya elder from the area told Rohingya Khobor that the families of the detained girls are deeply distressed.
“The families of the girls are crying and worried. No one knows where the girls are or what will happen to them,” he said.
Residents said the situation in the area remains tense as arrests and movement restrictions continue, leaving Rohingya communities living in fear.
