On Sunday, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said he is “deeply concerned” about the Rohingya refugees who are currently living an difficult life in the coastal area of Bangladesh. He expressed his deep concern while participating in a summit with leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations including Myanmar’s State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi.
Myanmar government is also facing pressure from ASEAN. Generally ASEAN members avoid interfering in each others affairs and refrain from mentioning individual countries problems in joint statements at summits or ministerial meetings. However, the Rohingya issue has become an exception. Bangladesh government has being engaged to gather support to end this crisis ASAP.
