One of the most anticipated events of this year, “the general election of Myanmar” which will hold tomorrow may lead Rohingya refugees to return in safety and dignity to their homeland said the UN Secretary-General.
A United Nations statement published yesterday with regard to Myanmar where the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, “….concerned about armed conflict in many areas of Myanmar, especially the intensifying clashes in Rakhine and Chin states, which continue to take a heavy toll on vulnerable civilians.”
He also urged “all parties to the armed conflict to respect their obligations under international humanitarian law and to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure.”
The following statement also signified that holding a peaceful, orderly and credible election is an important opportunity to help advance inclusive sustainable development, humanitarian action, human rights and democratic reforms including civilian control.
With less than 12 hours left for the election, despite having accusation of genocide, Myanmar’s governing party NLD is set to win this time as well.
