Yesterday, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has urged the host authorities to increase their security and to take immediate measures in the Rohingya camps.
In the statement UNHCR said, the violent attack of 22nd October which took place in the early morning made the agency concerned. During the following event, at least seven refugees died and an unspecified number of Rohingyas got injured including children. Those with injuries are currently receiving medical care.
The statement said, “This includes the arrest and prosecution in accordance with the law of those responsible for instigating and committing these violent attacks.”
The UN also said, “Rohingya refugees fled to Bangladesh seeking safety and security from violence. A large majority – some 80 per cent – are women and children.”
