Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh | December 7, 2025
The United Kingdom and Qatar have announced a joint contribution of eleven point two million dollars to support Rohingya refugees and Bangladeshi host communities in Cox’s Bazar. According to the British High Commission, the funding will assist more than six hundred forty seven thousand people who continue to face limited resources, environmental pressures and daily safety concerns.
Officials said the contribution will focus heavily on providing liquified petroleum gas to vulnerable Rohingya families in the camps. LPG reduces dependence on firewood, which has led to significant deforestation in the surrounding hills.
A resident of Camp Eight E told Rohingya Khobor that families often cut firewood because they have no alternatives. He said access to LPG can protect the environment and make cooking safer.
A mother in Camp Five said wood smoke sometimes affects children inside shelters and that access to gas would improve family health and safety.
Communities living near the camps in Bangladesh have also faced shortages of firewood and environmental degradation. The joint funding aims to support both refugees and host families by reducing pressure on nearby forests.
A youth from Camp Four said the assistance is a reminder that the international community has not forgotten the Rohingya. He said support such as LPG helps families feel safer inside the camps.
The British High Commission said the objective of the funding is to promote safer, healthier and more sustainable conditions in and around Cox’s Bazar for those who remain dependent on humanitarian aid.
