COX’S BAZAR, ROHINGYA REFUGEE CAMP – A shocking incident of violence unfolded in Block B of Camp 2W when 18-year-old Anamul Hasan, son of MV Nur Hussain, was reportedly stabbed on January 27, 2025. The attack occurred as Anamul was returning to his shelter from Kutupalong Bazar.
According to Anamul’s statement, a group of individuals identified as Shuklur, Sodullah, Md Forid, Dilu, Md Anuwar, and Noyan attempted to snatch his mobile phone. When Anamul resisted, they stabbed him with a knife. The incident has raised serious concerns about the escalating security threats in the camp.
Anamul, a resident under Sub-Majee Basar’s jurisdiction in Camp 2W, sustained a stab wound to his abdomen. He was rushed to a nearby medical facility and is currently in critical but stable condition, according to his father.
Several members of the group accused of the attack have reportedly fled the area, prompting concerns about the safety of other camp residents.
“This kind of violence is deeply troubling,” said a local community leader. “We call on the authorities to deliver justice and ensure adequate security for all residents of the camp.”
Growing Concerns Over Security
Violence within the Rohingya refugee camps has been a persistent issue, exacerbating the already dire living conditions for the community. Residents frequently express frustration over the lack of effective policing and security measures, which allow such crimes to go unchecked.
This latest attack underscores the urgent need for enhanced security protocols to protect vulnerable residents. Local and international organizations are being urged to intervene and address the growing tensions within the camps.
Enhanced mediation efforts and stronger policing mechanisms are vital to ensuring the safety and dignity of Rohingya refugees in the face of mounting challenges.
