November 15, 2025. Camp 2E, Cox’s Bazar
A violent midnight attack on 3 November left five people injured and a seventeen-year-old girl abducted in Camp 2E, according to multiple residents. The assault took place shortly after twelve o’clock at night when a group of around fifty armed men stormed a shelter in Block E 3, leaving families terrified and the neighbourhood deeply shaken.
Witnesses said the attackers targeted the home of thirty five year old Asma Begum. They shouted at the family to open the door, and when there was no response, they slashed through the entrance and tore apart sections of the shelter wall. Residents in nearby houses reported that their doors had been locked from the outside, preventing anyone from going out to help. A neighbour said they heard children crying but were unable to open their doors.
Family Beaten Inside the Shelter
When the armed group broke into Asma Begum’s home, they beat several members of the family, including the mother and the grandmother. Both suffered head injuries and broken fingers. The attackers then moved to the home of the Block Majhi, Aman Ullah, where two more people were beaten.
Those injured include Asma Begum, aged thirty five, Block Majhi Aman Ullah, aged fifty, Ahesan, a fourteen year old student, and two neighbours whose names have been withheld at their request. The seventeen year old girl from the family was taken away by the attackers. Witnesses said she was abducted with the intention of being forced into marriage.
Looting and Fear Across the Block
Residents said the armed men looted nearly forty thousand Bangladeshi Taka in cash along with one tola of gold before escaping into the night. Community members described the attack as more than a financial loss, explaining that it had damaged their sense of safety in a camp already living under constant uncertainty. One neighbour said that if such a large group could enter a block so easily, no family could feel secure.
Calls for Protection
The next morning, residents gathered around the damaged shelters, checking on the injured and offering support. Five people were hurt in total, three from the targeted family and two from a neighbouring home. Community members said the camp urgently needs stronger night security and immediate action from the authorities responsible for protection.
The families involved are currently in need of medical treatment, psychological support, and assurances that the attacks will be taken seriously. The atmosphere in Camp 2E remains tense as residents wait for information and fear possible further violence.
