Since June 2020, the Myanmar government did not pay salaries to the volunteer teachers working in the government schools in Rakhine state.
Due to the recent rise of COVID19 infection rate and restriction of movement in Rakhine state, schools and universities have closed. Therefore, most of the residents are in lockdown.
The volunteer teachers had not received any money for the last four months nor, they can work anywhere else.
One teacher said, “The government does not appoint us as permanent teachers. Because we are mostly Rohingya and Rakhine.”
Currently, the volunteer teachers are facing financial difficulties and were wondering when they will receive their salaries or will they ever receive!
