A 22-year-old Rohingya student, Soyed Karim, tragically lost his life on Thursday, July 10, after suffering a sudden epileptic seizure near a pond while visiting the area with a friend.
Originally from Shoçogozibil village in Myanmar, Soyed had been living in Camp 2 East of the Rohingya refugee settlement in Bangladesh. He was known as a regular student attending local tuition classes and had been living with epilepsy as a chronic health condition.
According to witnesses, the incident occurred while Soyed was walking with a friend. As they approached a pond, he experienced a seizure and collapsed. Despite attempts to assist him, he passed away at the scene before any medical help could arrive.
His death has left classmates and community members in deep sorrow. Many described Soyed as a determined and hopeful youth who pursued education despite the many challenges of refugee life and his ongoing health struggles.
Following the incident, community members are calling for greater awareness and improved access to healthcare for individuals suffering from chronic conditions such as epilepsy in the refugee camps.
