Yesterday the Malaysian authorities have found 26 Rohingya refugees on a nearby islet of Langkawi who went on missing on Saturday after they jumped off from the boat. The search began on Sunday when one of the refugees was found on the shore of Langkawi and told the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency that a minimum of 24 others was missing. Senior agency official Zawawi Abdullah says 12 men, 10 women, and four children in total were found.
Officials say they believe local fishermen took the refugees out to sea and deposited them off Langkawi in the hopes that they come ashore undetected. At present, Malaysia is home to more than 101,000 Rohingya refugees. On June, the Malaysian Prime Minister declared that they cannot accept anymore Rohingya coming boats.
