The Arakan Army (AA) has reportedly abducted five Rohingya civilians from two villages in Buthidaung Township, raising fresh fears among already traumatized communities.
According to local sources, four of the abductees—Mohamed Roshit, U Lalu (the village chairman), Sayed Alom, and one unidentified man—were seized from Alay Chaung village.
The fifth man, Mohibbullah, was taken from Bagonna Taung Ywar village.
Motive Unknown, Fear Deepens
As of now, the motives behind the abductions remain unclear. Families have received no information about the victims’ whereabouts or condition.
“We are living in constant fear. Every day we hear about arrests or abductions. Now it’s our own people. We don’t know why they were taken or if they are even alive,” said Abdul Karim, a Rohingya resident from a neighboring village, speaking to Rohingya Khobor.
Another villager, who requested anonymity for security reasons, expressed growing anxiety:
“Our lives are becoming more and more dangerous. We have no protection, no voice, and now people are disappearing without reason,” he told Rohingya Khobor.
A Climate of Fear and Lawlessness
The abductions add to a growing pattern of fear, where Rohingya civilians find themselves caught between armed groups and without any form of protection.
Communities report that arbitrary arrests, forced conscription, and threats have become increasingly common in Buthidaung and other parts of northern Arakan, leaving families feeling vulnerable and abandoned.
Calls for Urgent International Attention
Community members are urgently calling on international human rights organizations to intervene, demanding accountability, transparency, and protection for Rohingya civilians trapped in the conflict zone.
Humanitarian agencies have so far issued no public statements regarding these latest abductions.
