On Wednesday morning, a Rohingya named Ishaq (48) was taken from his house and beaten to death. His body was recovered from under the bridge in Kutupalong area of the Upazila.
The deceased is the son of Muhammad Rashid of Block No. 7 A-1 of Balukhali Rohingya Camp in Ukhiya. It has been alleged that Myanmar’s armed rebel organization Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) were involved in the killing.
Additional Deputy Inspector General (ADIG) of Armed Police Battalion (APBN) in charge of security of Rohingya camp. Aamir Zafar provided this information.
APBN captain Amir Zafar said, quoting locals, Ishaq was picked up by ARSA. He was later taken under the bridge of Kutupalong 2-East camp and beaten to death. After receiving information from the locals, the police went and recovered the body. The victim’s eyes were gouged out and his hands and stomach were injured.
Amir Zafar also said that the police received information that the ARSA had committed the incident primarily with the aim of gaining dominance. Still, police are working to identify the culprits as well as uncover the cause of the murder. The body has been sent to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem.
