Members of the Arakan Army carried out household checks in Thing Daung village in Buthidaung Township on Friday, visiting homes and collecting information about Rohingya families, according to local residents.
Villagers said members of the armed group went from house to house, taking photographs of each home and asking families to show the people living there. They also recorded details about family members during the visits.
Residents said the process began in the morning and continued throughout the day, causing concern among villagers as armed personnel moved through the community collecting information.
“They came to our house and took photos,” a Rohingya resident told Rohingya Khobor. “They asked how many people live in our family and checked everyone.”
Another villager said the checks were carried out across the village.
“They are going to every home in the village. People are afraid because we do not know why they are taking these photos,” the resident said.
At the time of reporting, there was no official explanation from the Arakan Army regarding the purpose of the photographs or how the collected information will be used.
Residents said they are closely monitoring the situation while hoping that the actions will not lead to further problems for the Rohingya community in the area.
