Buthidaung, Rakhine State — May 28, 2025
The Arakan Army (AA/ULA) has forcibly expelled Rohingya families from their homes in Dinet Pyin village, days after seizing full control of the Buthidaung region on May 18, 2024.
On May 21, AA fighters summoned local Rohingya leaders and residents to a village meeting, where they issued verbal orders to leave the area immediately. Witnesses say no written notice, relocation plan, or humanitarian assistance was offered. Instead, residents were met with threats of violence if they refused to comply.
“We had no choice,” said one displaced man. “They told us to leave or face the consequences. Now we are sleeping on the ground in paddy fields, under the open sky.”
The entire Rohingya population of Dinet Pyin was pushed across the Sein Nyein Pya stream into nearby rice fields, where they have been forced to build makeshift shelters with no access to food, clean water, or medical care.
Community sources report that Dinet Pyin, once home to hundreds of Rohingya families, now lies almost entirely emptied.
This latest wave of forced displacement marks a disturbing escalation in the Arakan Army’s campaign of intimidation and demographic engineering across northern Rakhine. While the AA presents itself internationally as a liberator of Rakhine State, its actions on the ground reveal widespread abuses against the Rohingya minority.
Human rights groups and displaced residents are now urging urgent international action to protect civilians and stop the expanding pattern of forced evictions.
“The world is watching yet doing nothing,” said a Rohingya youth from Buthidaung. “They are clearing our villages one by one—and no one is stopping them.”
