Bangladesh home ministry spokesman, Sharif Mahmud on Wednesday said the government’s installation of barbed wire fencing in and around the refugee camps of Cox’s Bazar is going to be completed by June 2021.
“Authority started the fencing project around the camp in December 2019. So far, Bangladesh army has already covered 142 km (88 miles) of fencing around refugee camps of Ukhiya and Teknaf, sub-district of Cox’s Bazar, and it will be completed by June 2021”, said Mahmud.
“The Rohingya people have been fleeing from different camps. They have been spreading across the country, even though our law and enforcement agencies have been trying to stop them,” Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told the reporters after presiding over a Dhaka meeting of a committee on law and order at the refugee camps.
“They are refugees. They must live within the camps. They cannot go out. The government is building the barbed-wire fencing around the camps so that the Rohingya can stay inside the camps with safety and security,” he said.
