A man was apprehended by the Tatmadaw from Ra Bai La, Maungdaw North.
On Tuesday, as Tatmadaw forces entered the now destroyed village tract, Rohingyas began to flee the area. However Md Alam could not escape the soldiers in time.
He has been taken to an unknown location and there is no further information concerning his fate. Many of those arrested in the recent crackdown have been tortured to death, some having their eyes gouged out while others had their hands cut off from the wrists.
Torture of Muslim prisoners is common in Arakan where hundreds have died a slow painful death while many more have been maimed.
Alam is a betel leaf trader by profession. He returned to Ra Bai La along with other men only recently amid ‘normalisation’ of the ground situation.
Ra Bai La, along with the nearby villages of Sa Li Frang, Sau Ra Gazi Bil and Bor Gazi Bil were attacked with helicopter gunships, rocket launchers and machine guns on November 12 and 13 after protesters armed with sticks resisted against a Tatmadaw team carrying out rape of Rohingya women. The attacks are estimated to have killed around 150 people.
In the aftermath of the attacks, any male members of these villages were killed or apprehended while the women were subjected to sexual humiliation in public places.
