On Monday Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) arrested three Rohingya men from Dharmanagar railway station in northern Tripura while they were heading to Delhi to obtain an education. Later on they were handed over to Dharmanagar police.
The detainees have been identified as Mohammad Naseer (20), Mohammad Ismail (21), and Rahimullah (18).
Police cited a preliminary investigation and said they did not find anything except a diary that the three claimed to have bought from Bangladesh. They added the diary has some writings in Urdu and the police are yet to find out what they are about. The three are believed to have told police they were on their way to Delhi to pursue their studies.
All three were produced before a local court on Tuesday on charges of violating the Foreigners Act. The court accepted three days remand.
As per BSF report, while no Rohingyas or foreigners other than Bangladeshi nationals were arrested crossing the border illegally in 2021, 53 Rohingya and one Nigerian national were arrested in 2019 along the Tripura-Bangla frontiers.
