Refugee camps held in Bangladesh has entered to its first stage of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic and humanitarian aid groups operating amongst them are bracing for a potential worst-case scenario.
According to Dave Grunebaum report of VOA, if there is a major outbreak medical teams may be forced to ration health care. Although in the past few months five isolation centre for treatments opened. In an interview with VOA, Athena Rayburn from Save the children added, Rohingya refugee camps lack hygiene, which is an ideal situation for spreading Coronavirus; also people are living on top of each other due to lack of space.
Clean water and soap supplies has been increased in the camps but community doctors and healthcare providers lacks PPE and other safety protectors. Paul Brockmann from Doctors without Borders said to voanews, “I definitely imagine that, doctors will have to make choices about patients who may not survive even with the best care, and to give that care to the patients with the better chance to survival. We are all hooked to avoid this decision.” Despite all the obstacle he said, they are committed all they can for their patients.
It is high time for the Rohingya refugee to protect themselves in all possible ways.
