On Tuesday (21 February) around 11 am, Armed Police Battalion (APBn) recovered a dead body of a Rohingya youth, which was lying on the floor of a refugee shelter, in E block of Kutupalong camp 1 west. Even though family members claimed it was suicide; police believes that he has been killed through suffocation, as they found sign of injury to the body’s neck.
The deceased is identified as Mohammed Elias son of Mamun Rashid, a resident of shed number 4 of E-Block.
Confirming the truth of the incident, the officer-in-charge of Ukhia police station Sheikh Mohammad Ali told that people nearby found Elias’ body on the floor of a room in E-Block of the shelter camp this morning. Although the family members said it was suicide, there were injuries on the neck of the deceased. It is suspected that Elias was killed by suffocation and left on the floor.
According to the locals, police sent the body to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
It has also been known that, earlier, a Rohingya housewife named Noor Kayas (26) was shot dead by assailants in B-57 Block area of Balukhali Shelter Camp (Camp-8 West) in Ukhia at around 11 o’clock on February 16. At the same time, Rohingya Abdur Rahim (38), head of the camp, was seriously injured in the firing of terrorists in Maynarghona (Camp-12) shelter camp in Ukhia.
