Cox’s Bazar Civil Surgeon Dr Mahbubur Rahman said dengue outbreak is increasing day by day in Cox’s Bazar mentioning that Rohingya camps also face a terrible dengue situation. Out of 12246 patients affected in the district in the last 1 year, 11658 are Rohingya. It is estimated over 20 people died due to this disease, 22 are Rohingya. Remaining 1 local.
Abdur Rahman, a resident of Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhia, said his wife and child had been suffering from fever for several days. After providing first treatment in the camp hospital, Later they were sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. They have not fully recovered yet.
Hafizur Rahman, a resident of Lambashia Camp, East Block D/8, said, “I have been in the hospital with my little boy for 4 days. Even though the fever has come down a little, my son has not fully recovered. I am afraid of him.”
Doctor Mohammed Ashiqur Rahman of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital said that the number of dengue fever patients in September is more than other months in Sadar Hospital. Dengue treatment services are being provided as per national guidelines. Everyone should be careful to avoid this viral disease by destroying mosquito breeding places and various preventive measures including mosquito nets.
Dr Mahbub also said that along with treatment to prevent dengue, awareness campaign is going on among locals and Rohingyas. Dengue treatment services have been ensured in every camp of Ukhia-Teknaf. NGOs-INGOs are working along with the government. Prevention is given more importance than treatment.
To prevent dengue, this medical officer advises not to throw plastic waste anywhere, keep the surroundings of the house clean and use mosquito nets while sleeping at night.
