A fire broke out in Camp 9, Block C 06 of the Rohingya refugee camps on February 10, 2026, prompting an immediate response from community members and fire services, local residents said.
According to residents, the fire is suspected to have started from an LPG gas cylinder inside a shelter. As the flames spread, people living nearby rushed to the scene and attempted to control the fire to prevent it from spreading to surrounding shelters.
Community members’ quick action helped reduce the risk of a larger disaster in the densely populated area.
Fire Service personnel were informed shortly after the incident and arrived at the site to bring the situation fully under control. The area was later monitored to ensure the fire did not restart.
No confirmed reports of injuries or casualties were available at the time of reporting.
Residents said the incident once again highlights the high fire risk inside the camps, where shelters are built close together and many families rely on LPG cylinders for daily cooking. Community members urged greater caution and stronger safety awareness to prevent similar incidents in the future.
