This morning Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought the assistance of Gwen Lewis, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, to relocate the Rohingyas to Bhasanchar for a developed life.

Sheikh Hasina made the call when Gwen Lewis came to pay a courtesy call on the Prime Minister at her official residence Ganabhaban on Monday morning morning.

At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister’s speech writer M.  Nazrul Islam briefed the journalists.

Nazmul said citing the Prime Minister that there is no guarantee that the Rohingyas will be sent back to their home country soon, the Rohingyas should be shifted to a more developed system and the United Nations can cooperate with them. The Rohingyas are currently living in a densely populated Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar.

Though Rohingyas have been sheltered in Bangladesh for humanitarian reasons, they become a big burden, the country head said and added that if the Rohingyas can be shifted to Bhashanchar with livelihood system, then they will be able to live a dignified life in a livable environment.

The Prime Minister thanked the United Nations for its support since the Rohingyas took refuge in Bangladesh and expressed hope that the United Nations would continue this support.
