A fisherman was allegedly killed by vigilantes from the Rakhine community from Mayer Kul in Akyab.
On Monday, Md Amin went out from the village to fish. When he did not return by nightfall, his friends and family members raised the alarm.
Villagers recovered his broken body from a ditch on the next morning.
Amin was known to be a good natured man who maintained cordial relations with other villagers. He leaves behind a family with no other earning members.
Mogh vigilantes backed by Hlun Htein have been known to be active in the area.
Since 2012, many villagers who have gone out of their neighbourhoods to earn a livelihood have been brutally killed by vigilantes and security forces. Activists allege this is a systematic blockade to starve out the Rohingyas, as without income, Rohingyas have no access to food.
Many Rohingyas in Akyab and the southern townships have escaped abroad due to this systematic blockade which has been creating chronic food shortages.
The government of Myanmar maintains the Rohingyas are illegal immigrants who have be pushed out to another country.
