The decapitated body of a Rohingya man was found on the river banks of Kappa Gung in Maungdaw North.

Shuna Mia, 39, has been reported missing since Wednesday. On Thursday morning, local fishermen found the headless corpse in Kappa Gung which is close to Nga Khura from where the victim hails.

Our correspondent says Shuna was killed for speaking to a media team appointed by the Ministry of Information. Shuna and other Rohingyas defied orders issued by the security forces to not communicate with the media.

Locals blame a Buddhist nationalist gang that operates with the full backing of the security forces for the assassination.

Earlier, many had been killed or arrested and tortured for speaking to UN appointed observers.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Hlun Htein searched for two women who had been speaking to the media team in Nga Khura. The security forces threatened the villagers with dire consequences if these women were not handed over. The women had given a detailed account to the media on how they and others in the village tract were raped by the Tatmadaw.

The border police also took photos of many people who were speaking to the media on Tuesday. There are worries the pictures will be handed to the vigilante gang who will take revenge on the Rohingyas. The discovery of the headless corpse of Shuna Mia has increased the fears.

Shuna Mia was one of those who was photographed by the Hlun Htein.

On Tuesday evening, the Hlun Htein arrested seven leading community members of Nga Khura and severely beat them in custody. It was then threatened that there would be further trouble if they did not hand down a list of people who had given interviews to the media.
