The Refugee-Led Research Hub (RLRH) at Oxford University is rolling out an exciting new program called Graduate Horizons. This initiative is designed to help students affected by forced displacement, such as refugees, asylum seekers, and stateless individuals, who dream of pursuing a master’s degree. If you’re aiming to start graduate school in the 2025–26 academic year, this could be your golden ticket.

What’s on Offer?

Over five months, starting in late September 2024, Graduate Horizons will provide one-on-one mentorship to 80 selected participants. These lucky individuals will be paired with current Oxford graduate students or alumni who will guide them through every step of the application process. From choosing the right courses to perfecting personal statements and CVs, mentors will offer personalized support to help candidates stand out.

But that’s not all. The program also includes a series of workshops and information sessions aimed at helping participants build strong applications. Topics will range from selecting a university and writing compelling essays to exploring fully-funded scholarships. The workshops will take place online, making it accessible no matter where you are in the world.

Who Can Apply?

If you’ve been displaced and have a solid academic background (usually at least a 2:1 or a 3.5+ GPA), you’re encouraged to apply. The program is particularly geared towards those in the Social Sciences and Humanities, but all fields are welcome.

RLRH is committed to inclusivity and strongly encourages applications from underrepresented groups, including LGBTQ+ individuals, women, and disabled candidates. There’s also specialized support for African students eligible for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.

How to get involved

Interested? Applications are open until 5 PM BST on Monday, 2nd September 2024. Be prepared to spend a few hours on your application—this is your chance to shine, and the effort could pay off in a big way.

To learn more, RLRH is hosting several online information sessions in August 2024. These sessions are a great opportunity to get your questions answered and learn exactly what Graduate Horizons can do for you. Can’t make it live? No worries—just email the team for a recording.

A Bit About RLRH

The refugee-led research hub is all about empowering people who have experienced displacement. Based in Oxford, Nairobi, and Kakuma camp in Kenya, RLRH helps these individuals become leaders in areas like humanitarian response, human rights, and forced migration. Through programs like Graduate Horizons, they’re opening doors for people who’ve faced some of the toughest challenges life can throw at you.

If this sounds like the opportunity you’ve been waiting for, don’t hesitate. Apply now and take the first step toward making your educational dreams a reality.
