Two Rohingya men were killed after being arrested by the Arakan Army in Maungdaw Township, according to local residents and eyewitnesses. The incident occurred on March 27, when the two men were detained while returning home from work.
The victims were identified as Mohammed Younus, 19, son of Boshir Ahmed, and Mohammed Salam, 22, son of Abdul Amin. Both were from Tha Yet Oke village and had been working at a fishing lake in an area locally known as Abojah Fara.
Residents said the two men were arrested at around 7 p.m. while walking back from the lake.
“They were working at the fishing tank. When they were returning home, Arakan Army saw them and reportedly beat them severely,” one eyewitness said.
Their whereabouts remained unknown for several days after the arrest.
Local sources said their bodies were later found in a stream near the beach after the water level dropped. Witnesses reported that the bodies showed signs of violence.
“They found them with their hands tied. Cloth was stuffed into their mouths,” another eyewitness said.
Sources indicated that the victims may have been tortured before being killed. Witnesses said their eyes were covered and their mouths were tied, and their bodies were later disposed of in the stream.
Residents described the victims as ordinary young men trying to earn a living.
“They were just living their lives and working to survive,” an eyewitness said.
