On Sunday at around 9:40 a.m. Mohammed Kasim a fish trader by profession was brutally assaulted by Khin Aung -an officer of Fishing Project Development, Kazzapa Fish Market, Guda Pyin, Buthidaung.
The officer accused and charged Kasim of having an expired approval paper. He was then mercilessly assaulted and forced to pay a fine of 60,000 kyats.
Local sources however say there was nothing wrong with Kasim’s papers.
Since the military operation of 2017 that killed approximately 25,000 people, government officials have been making it very difficult for Rohingyas to engage in commercial activities. Rohingya activists allege the government is determined to drive out the rest of the populace out of the country using various repressive measures including the denial of any livelihood activities.
