Earlier this week, the Japanese delegation in Bangladesh awarded approximately $65,000 (USD) to a non-governmental organisation in Bangladesh to construct vocational training centre in Cox’s Bazar. The Centre which will be located in Ukhiya upazila will strengthen poverty reduction efforts and help Rohingya refugees with vocational training and other employment opportunities.
Media outlets have reported that Japan has assisted over 200 non-governmental organisations in Bangladesh in order to promote social initiatives at the grassroots level since 1989.
Further, Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Iwama Kiminori, has renewed Japan’s support to ensure a safe, dignified, voluntary repatriation of the Rohingya people to Myanmar and stated “As the crisis is turning into its sixth year, it is essential to keep the attention of the global community, while multiple emergencies have been taking place in different parts of the world.”
