A webinar will be held from 3rd to 5th November 2021, coordinated by Sarina Yamahata, a final year LLB Law student at King’s College, London.
The first two days’ topic will be on Myanmar and Thailand: Press Freedom and Human Rights and Myanmar and Thailand: The Role of Educational Institutions, CSOs, and Individuals which will focus on a broad discussion of Myanmar, Thailand, and their common struggle for democracy.
The last day’s topic will focus on Spotlight on Myanmar: International Law and Humanitarian Intervention following the Coup.
The focus of the conference is mainly on Myanmar and Thailand as they are neighbors in the same region and therefore share some common characteristics such as a long history of military rule. It aims to raise awareness and promote discussion of the common struggle that the two states have faced and continue to face against autocratic forces.
The conference is also launched in partnership with Burmawave: an independent website that critically discusses the complexities behind the current political crisis in Myanmar. It is a collaborative project dedicated to amplifying the voices of Myanmar’s movement for democracy, especially its ethnic populations.
