Following a security build up in Maungdaw and Akyab, security forces have now intensified their presence around Buthidaung villages, according to multiple sources across the region.
A source in Nga Kyi Dauk says a huge force of security personal including military men suddenly turned up in the area on Friday afternoon, spreading terror among locals.
Troops have taken up positions in many other Buthidaung villages.
Earlier on Thursday, armored vehicles were patrolling in Maungdaw and Akyab town.
The government says the force build up is aimed to deter the militant group ARSA which might carry out attacks to coincide with the anniversary of August 25.
Rohingya activists thrash this claim, alleging the government utilises the threat of shadowy militant groups to dehumanise Rohingya Muslims and gain ‘legitimacy’ for the ethnic cleansing of their community which has killed tens of thousands of Muslim men, women and children, and made Arakan almost Muslim free since last year.
