About three thousand Rohingyas have lost their shelters because of 5 days of heavy rain and storm winds in different Rohingya camps at Ukhia-Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) spokesman George McLeod said, “We have helped more than two thousand people in last 72 hours, but only half the time of the rainy season has only passed. The initial amount of damage already exceeds more loss with comparison to 2018 due to heavy rain and stormy winds it happened.”

The last 3rd to 5th July was the highest rainfall in Kutupalong Rohingya camp that recorded in 510 mm of rainfall. Another large camp – ‘Camp 16’ has recorded 530 mm rainfall.

According to the IOM estimates, the amount of initial loss ranging from 2nd to 6th July in the makeshifts affected by landslides was 1,186, makeshifts damaged by water was 216 and makeshifts damaged by wind gusts was 1,840.

According to the latest report of IOM, it is expected that rain and winds may continue throughout this week which will increase more damages.
