on September 29 An special mobile application and web portal was launched to follow Myanmar 2020 Election. The app was named mVoter 2020 app.
It was developed by Stockholm-based International Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) “under the EU-funded STEP Democracy programme in partnership with The Asia Foundation and the Union Election Commission [UEC]” according to the STEP Democracy website.
The following are the features of the app according to their Google Playstore page:
– View the Candidates in your region with the most precise location adapted with user
– View the Participating parties
– Search for participating candidates and parties
– Step-by-step detailed guide on how to vote
– Learn the process of General Election with Frequently Asked Questions
– Learn about the valid/invalid ballots
However, soon after its launch, the app was condemned by the right organisation for labelling the Rohingya as “Bengali”, a derogatory term used by the Myanmar government and extremist nationalists to deny Rohingya identity, which challenges their right of belonging in Myanmar and instigates hate.
The app and the website is live now during the writing of this report.
