On Saturday, a senior official of Foreign Affairs Ministry of Myanmar stated that they plan to dispatch envoys for a three-day visit in a refugee camp at Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh by the end of July.
Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary U Myint Thu will lead the envoys of officials from the Social Welfare Ministry and the Union Enterprise for Humanitarian Assistance, Resettlement and Development in Rakhine.
“We will explain our implementation of the repatriation and encourage participation in the voluntary return,” a senior Foreign Affairs official said.
U Ko Ko Naing, a member of the delegation, confirmed the trip and said, “We will give them (Rohingya families) details about what we are preparing for the returnees.”
Earlier on 1st July, Myanmar’s UN Ambassador Hau Do Suan told a General Assembly meeting that his government will dispatch a high-level delegation to Cox’s Bazar very soon. He said, “About 30,000 Rohingya had requested to return, of whom about 13,200 have been verified as former residents and can return to Rakhine anytime”.
It will be interesting to listen to their repatriation plan and see whether they would like to move the Rohingyas from a refugee camp to a concentration camp or genuinely will it be a dignified, safe and sustainable return to their place of origin and will they provide the Rohingya with their rights as par other people of Myanmar.
