In a recent meeting, the Myanmar Junta has declared that it is ready to start the “resettlement process” for people displaced from Rakhine State.
According to Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, the visits of International and Chinese diplomats in the Rakhine state led the Myanmar Chairman of the work coordination committee to take preparations for resettlement.
The Junta media also emphasized that preparations for the pilot project of repatriation of displaced persons under the bilateral agreement between Myanmar and Bangladesh is going on. But the media did not use the word “Rohingya.” It is assumed that, the meeting was referring to refugees currently living in camps in Bangladesh.
Union Minister Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, who is also in the capacity of Chairman of the Rakhine State Stability, Peace and Development Work Coordination Committee made a speech at the meeting of the committee at the Ministry of Border Affairs in Naypyidaw that, Myanmar is ready to start reception and resettlement of displaced persons at any time. He also added that development undertakings in the state have achieved success to some extent.
