On Thursday (26 January) around 10 am, a landmine placed by the military council exploded and killed one Rohingya teenager and injured three more teenagers in the southern part of Buthidaung while they were going to mountains to collect firewood.
The deceased is Sayed Noor (13), son of Md. Sharif of Po Kaung Chaung village, and the injured are Robiul Hasan (12), son of Mohammed, Zani Alam (12), son of Abdul Hamid and Ozi Ullah (13) son of Ahmed. All are from Po Kaung Chaung village in southern part of Buthidaung township.
According to eye witnesses, Robiul Hasan received severe injury on his belly and he is about to die where Hamid got hurt on his head and Zani received injury on his leg. They all have been rushed to hospital.
Since January 2022, both Arakan Army and military council have reached an agreement to cease fighting, but the mines have not been cleared.
