Police arrested the owner of a pharmacy that burned down in a fire at Bohal para, Akyab.
On Wednesday night at around 8.30 pm, two vehicles belonging to Noor Alam suddenly caught fire. Locals made some efforts to put out the flames, but once the fire spread, they fled the scene fearing the arrival of security forces. The fire then spread to the nearby pharmacy owned by the same man.
The flames did bring the security forces to the spot and they arrested Noor. Sources say he is likely to be blamed for intentionally setting fire to his own property.
In cases like this, security forces generally arrest the owners and accuse them of deliberate arson committed with the intention of discrediting Buddhist nationalists, the group that boasts a track record of arson attacks against Muslims.
The actual cause of the fire could not be known.
