A 13-year-old Rohingya boy died after suffering an electric shock in Bhasan Char on Tuesday afternoon, raising concerns over safety risks faced by Rohingya children in displacement settings.
The victim, Nurul Amin, son of Abdur Rohim and Romana Begum, died at around 12:30 pm, according to local residents. The incident occurred while he was collecting winged beans near a state electricity line in the area.
Witnesses said Nurul Amin came into contact with the electric line and was severely shocked. People nearby rushed to assist him, but he could not be saved.
His sudden death has left Rohingya families in Bhasan Char in deep grief. Residents expressed concern about the safety of exposed or poorly secured electric lines, particularly as children often go out to collect vegetables to help support their families.
Community members have called for improved safety measures and awareness to prevent similar accidents, especially in areas frequently accessed by children.
Nurul Amin’s death highlights the everyday dangers Rohingya children continue to face while living in displacement, where basic safety remains a constant concern.
