November 1, 2025 — A 28-year-old Rohingya man named Mohammed Jaber, son of Moulana Shob, has reportedly been kidnapped, with his family now receiving disturbing photos and videos showing him being beaten and held at gunpoint by his captors.
Jaber, originally from Kyet Yoe Pyin village in northern Maungdaw, Arakan State, was living with his family in Shalbagan Camp, Teknaf. He went missing on October 31, and after a full day without contact, his family received the shocking footage from an unknown mobile number earlier today.
According to his relatives, the kidnappers are demanding a large ransom in exchange for his release. “We are poor refugees. We have no money to pay them. We only pray that he returns home safely,” said one of Jaber’s uncles.
The videos and photos, reportedly showing the kidnappers pointing guns at Jaber’s head, have spread fear throughout the local community. Residents said such incidents have increased in recent months, adding to the insecurity faced by refugees in the camps.
Community members are urging authorities and law enforcement agencies to take immediate action to trace the kidnappers and rescue Jaber safely. Many fear that without stronger security measures, more refugees could become targets of kidnapping and extortion.
