On Friday (31st March 2023), at around 1:15 am a Rohingya named by Sayed Alam, a night guard was shot dead in a gunfight between two armed groups at D block of camp-8 in Cox’s Bazar.
Rohingya, who witnessed the incident said, “There was an exchange of fire between the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) and the Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO), an armed group in Myanmar. Sayed Alam, who was on duty as a night watchman, was shot at. Later, he was rescued and brought to the hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Ukhia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mohammad Ali said the gunfight took place between the two groups. One person died of gunshot wounds. Since the incident, police activities have started in the camp. Efforts are on to identify and arrest the accused.
