On Monday (January 23), Yao Wen, the newly appointed Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh, said the Rohingya need to be sent back to their homeland in Myanmar and Beijing hopes repatriation of the displaced will begin soon.
The Ambassador made this comment during a meeting with AK Abdul Momen. The Foreign Minister expressed hope for China’s continued support for the repatriation of the Rohingyas to Myanmar.
During the meeting, the Minister and Ambassador sincerely exchanged views on bilateral and multilateral cooperation of mutual interest, including trade and investment, infrastructure development, communication and South-South cooperation.
Congratulating the new Ambassador, the Foreign Minister appreciated China’s assistance in several mega projects in Bangladesh and hoped for speedy approval and implementation of existing and upcoming projects.
Hearing this, the Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar camps expressed delight and hope that they would be able to go back Myanmar with dignified civil right and safety.
