On Monday (3 April) a Rohingya mother died due to doctor’s negligence after giving birth at Nayapara camp.
The deceased is Hasina Begum, wife of Sayed Alam of H block in Nayapara camp.
A near by refugee under the condition of anonymity said, “On Sunday (2 April) after Magrib prayer Hasina got labor pain and went to camp base birth unit. Later, after Esha prayer she gave birth of a female child. She was all right till 12 pm. After that, the on duty nurse washed her to bring out unwanted blood. But due to rapidly washing with negligence, bleeding became out of control. Eventually Hasina became weaker and the next day she breathed last.”
Her family member claims that the doctors did not see Hasina while she was densely suffering from bleeding at night. And when her (Hasina) family members went, they got her in non moving state. So they called the doctors knocking the door loudly.
“Finally the doctor came out and checked her pulse and instantly referred to Cox’s Bazar, despite we claimed that she was no more”, her family member said.
Inhumanly rebuking Hasina’s relatives, the doctor referred her to Cox’s Bazar. “As soon as we reached Cox’s Bazar hospital, the doctor said that she is no more and we took her back,” a relative said.
“On the other hand, even though Hasina gave birth of a female child after Isha prayer of Sunday, the camp doctor made a tactful report by saying that Hasina gave birth in the morning of Monday and as she was [in] serious [condition], she was referred to Cox’s Bazar hospital. But on the way she succumbed”, one of her family member said.
A refugee elder said that not only Hasina died due to the doctor’s negligence but also many refugees died and many became chronic patients since the inception of camp settlement in 1992.
